Is My Daughter Snorting Focalin Xr? (Page 3) (Top voted first)

I may have found evidence that my 15yo girl is snorting her folacin xr, 20mgs. Is this even possible? How or rather why would she smash the luttle beads up? To snort them? What kind of high? Sincerely, Worried Mother

NAAAHHH, you really shouldn't be worried at all. If she has ADHD she wont get as much of a "high" as she would if she didn't have it. I know this because I'm currently prescribed 40mg of Focalin and I snort them everyday throughout the day. As long as she not doing it ALL at one time she'll be okay. BUT, if she doesn't have ADHD make her stop that s*** NOW! Long term abuse of ADHD drugs for patients who do not have or are wrongfully diagnosed with ADHD can lead to serious internal problems.

So can speak from a few sides of this... LADC-MH (License Alcohol Drug Counselor with a side of mental health) basically counsel anyone... Parent of two kids that take after me so pure handfuls and I will be dealing with this with at least one. I am very interested in how this turned out. I saw some good comments and some not so good comments. I can say from my experience I would let the doctor know of your concern so they keep them on the least abusive meds... if the doctor is a tool he will yank the meds but if he truly cares about helping he will work with you. I can say from my growing up I learned from hard knocks... My parents sheltered me quite a bit and I am too rebellious to follow good directions.... finally pulled my head out when I had something to actually lose. By the way if it hasnt been made clear the XR version does get abused but its a lot of work from what I have been told and overall focalin isnt that great after the first couple of times. I have made a point to not shelter my children from the uglier side of the world... my 8yr old has already donated time at one of the local homeless shelters and my 14yr old spent a short period of time in juvi and then in county through some connections. The glamour is long gone about the fun the drugs can be since they saw the results. Don't know if they will end up using anyways but tried to show the not glamorous side and we run an oddly open house... so talks with them happen often and unless they really venture out of the neighborhood there isnt a parent I am not on a first name basis with. I believe strongly in transparency and it takes a village to raise a kid. Try going solo and attempting to control them is almost pointless. I don't work with kids because I truly lack the heart for it (usually an issue with the parents that manifests through the kids so its like running on a wheel) so I stick with adults but hear the stories from others that will work with the kids and rarely is it from a lack of the parents trying (unless the parents are into drugs also) usually is a strangling thing and except locking them up which in previous places I have worked they still get adhd meds and then cheek it despite us checking and go back to their room/shower and do it... that was my first 2 places... not by choice but one has to eat and the only other option was dhs... so into state funded adolescent facilities till i was able to land a job in a that I can go home with a clear conscience.... most of the time...when someone fails you always have to wonder if you missed something or if it was going to happen no matter what.... no one knows but odds of relapse are much higher than odds of success.... like to the point if someone relapses it doesnt surprise me at all... i just care they get back through the door and we can try again. But finishing up with your daughter dont over shelter... kids already think they are invincible and the more sheltered they are the more that grows imo due to a lack of being in touch with how life can go.

Growing up I was fairly social and had friends that did and didnt use substances... in turn i know a fair bit of dead people between growing up and my job. We all grew up fairly spoiled not really wanting much to the point on person got a motorcycle and within a month most of us would... my parents were smarter with their money than others which is why they still have quite a bit but others dumped stupid amounts of money into treatment inpatient was the big money sucker.... I know two families that are missing a kid due to heroin... one didn't even make it back to his parents before he died... forgot the relation to the staff of the person that they released the kid to but he had a shot waiting for him in the car not taking into consideration that he hadn't had an opiate in about 4 months.... dead in the back seat because they couldn't decide fast enough he needed to get to a hospital... (umm yeah common sense even to me then... more than a small nod or if they turn blue its an ambulance call or back of my car if I am less than 5 from the hospital.... sorry not having that on my conscious and that was made very clear to everyone... and no that didnt make friends but whatever some you need and some you dont) It was kinda pushed under... family friends or something... they at least agreed if he was going to relapse then it almost didnt matter when... i slight hold a grudge because life is too important to bother with images.... we didn't play much with the lighter things because they were rather boring but hey we couldn't be touched... parents always there to bail us out or cover it at home because appearances. So please don't make those mistakes... no one will stop till they are ready and at the beginning it is all a lot of fun... by the time a chunk of them have either quit or had enough bad experiences many stop on their own if they can....so I live in the midwest and growing up cartels were not present... now its who you get your meth and heroin through... the parts of town i wouldnt drive has changed greatly and on the other hand its cheaper and more accessible than ever.... cops bust some young kid that barely speaks english and there is another out there within hours according to local pd. Just a different game than many of us grew up in. Heroin used to be a drive out of the state and had to buy in decent amounts or it wasnt even worth the drive. And yes I know this thread is about focalin xr but to give you an idea of the progress started with stealing parents alcohol which was kept very stocked and i think i got in trouble once for it.... which it was an every weekend thing to grab something... then onto pills and pot... oxy was much easier to get back then... decided to try out meth for a bit but oi that did a number on my emotions so dumped it... ended up doing mostly extasy (called mdma or molly now) and maybe a little too much mushrooms and lsd.... very good times and the best part is i didnt die and ended up learning from it.

I would like to say college is a good education but I always had to giggle on the inside about the people that had never touched anything more than alcohol or pot and swore they were addicted to pot... im not going to judge much but i wanted to facepalm anytime someone said that... I didn't bother talking with many of them but a handful I had in enough classes you couldn't avoid it so talking happens... My side I drink on ocassion. There side is they were sent to rehab for alcohol and pot... alcohol consumption was sometimes high but usually not even into the life threatening zone... who knows maybe if they hadnt ended up in rehab it would have progressed but i will just admit i want to pat them on the head and say go have some more experience and when youre in trouble call me. Hard to beat experience which is why my teachers gave me quite a bit of preference... there is something different between someone that has seen the uglier side and only the picket fence side.... now I will throw this in before I catch too much hell.... Yes I see soccer moms and people that are much smarter than I but still cant figure out how to stop drinking or taking a certain pill.... harder drugs in that crowd is rare unless its cocaine (powder not rock)... for their lives it is usually destroying at least their family system... they usually end up with kids that I try to push towards alateen or if they are older aca... big fan of aca for those affected by an addict. They dont realize the odd thinking until they are exposed to people being open about how their lives are. If you can relate to dont feel, dont talk, dont trust.... it might be worth looking into... i can fit all three but its usually during times that i am hearing something horrible so emotionally i distance myself so i dont judge... and the dont trust... yep... only entrust that youre doing your best... anyone else that walks through the door most dont have a track record of anything long enough to be trusted further than you can throw them.

alright enough of a run on paragraph. if the OP is still around let me know how its going. Not going to council if I can hold it back but would like to hear a positive story... the few that do make it are why i can stand my job... also never expect someone to make it... those burn out so fast.... studies and stats usually dont lie much so no reason to think different.

I don't know how many times I have said this, But there is no prescription drug on earth that was made to crush and snort. Prescirption or not she needs to stop at once and get some help. Hopefully, you will confront her and ask what the deal is before it goes to far. I gave this same advice to a friend of mine because his son was crushing some drug I never heard of before, and it made a world of difference to them both. Do not be afraid to ask and stop her. Her life is worth more. I just had surgery on my leg, and I am afraid to take vicodin because of the stories I have heard. I take tylenol extra strenght and deal with the remaining pain because I know it will not last forever. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS, Don't let your daughter destroy her life at a young age, because it will only get worse if she continues what she is doing.

Shes a kid, and wants to get high. Dont ground her for it but drop a hint like * hey i found some white beads, blah, blah, blah. im 16 and have snorted it, n it gets u very high such as speed er coke would. so its nothing to fret over, just drop the hint n leave it at that.
