Does Anyone Taking Lyrica Have Memory Loss? (Page 3)
(Newest replies first)

I have been on Lyrica for about 8 months now and I am having fantastic results. My dr is trying to increase my dosage and I have been doing it in 50 mg increments. I am up 100 more now in a month, for a total dosage of 400mg. I find that I have very bad recall and loss of my vocabulary during conversation. It eventually goes away, but I was wondering if anyone else has this? If it keeps up, I just may have to drop back down 50mg until I get used to it? That seemed to work that last time I had to raise it.BTW, I have nerve pain in my ribcage. (not caused by shingles)

Many patients wonder why Lyrica has such a detrimental effect on health and as I read the FDA’s information on Lyrica ingredients, the Titanium Dioxide caught my eye, and further reading revealed the following:

TITANIUM DIOXIDE PROMOTES INFLAMMATION -

Given the size of titanium dioxide particles as well as the electrical charge, exposure to the mineral has been linked to oxidative stress and chronic inflammation. An increase in oxidative stress in the body stimulates cellular and DNA damage.

What are the ingredients In LYRICA?

- Active ingredient: pregabalin.
- Inactive ingredients (in LYRICA capsules): lactose monohydrate, cornstarch, talc.
- Capsule shell: gelatin and TITANIUM DIOXIDE.
- Orange capsule shell: red iron oxide.
- White capsule shell: sodium lauryl sulfate, colloidal silicon dioxide. (Colloidal silicon dioxide is a manufacturing aid that may or may not be present in the capsule shells).
- Imprinting ink: shellac, black iron oxide, propylene glycol, potassium hydroxide.
- LYRICA oral solution: methylparaben, propylparaben, monobasic sodium phosphate anhydrous, dibasic sodium phosphate anhydrous, sucralose, artificial strawberry #11545 and purified water.

I took Lyrica for 6 years, from 2011 to 2017 until I had black-outs and hearing problems in conjunction with non-stop hot flushes, and then discovered I was being poisoned by Lyrica. I stopped taking it in July 2017 and my hearing is back to normal, my eyes can focus and I don’t have black-outs anymore.

You need to look at studies on Lyrica and brain damage. There appears to be a correlation between the two according to the studies I have read. In the end, you will have to decide if the relief you are getting is worth the memory problems and any other side effects. Talk to your Doctor about it.

Yes, it is certainly the Case for me ... I've slowly reduced the dose and am off it completely ... make sure hat you reduce the dose 10% a week for safety.

I really hope they don't take it off the market. I don't take it daily but only when my pain meds aren't sufficient to do the job (generally no more than 2 days in a row). Although it makes me word-dumb for awhile, for me, it really helps when it's needed. Perhaps, they could do better with the amount they're prescribing. We're all between a rock and a hard place I guess.

I also take Lyrica periodically when my neuropathy pain needs a little help. One reason I don't like taking it is because I can't recall the most ordinary conversational words. One time I couldn't even remember the names of my cats. It's so embarrassing. I've also noticed that it can take several months to have all my faculties back. It's too bad I need it at time. Neurotin's side effects are worse for me however.

I had spinal fusion c6-c7 about 10 years ago. Following surgery the disks above and below the fusion get more 'stress' placed on them and also start to bulge. About three years ago I went to the doctor in a lot of pain and distress. He prescribed Lyrica 2x 75 mg daily. I was really concerned when reading the side effects. I had never been suicidal and didn't want to feel suicidal. I decided to only take 1x 75mg daily. It did help reduce the pain for a time. However, it stops being effective. I did not up the dose... I have degree in Journalism and have worked as a publicist. Over the past year or so I have suffered memory loss and had a great deal of trouble remembering very simple words. I have been frustrated and angry. My brain feels numb, dull and I have felt like a zombie. I have completely lacked motivation. My eyesight has become blurred with slight double vision. I thought I had early on set dementia or Alzheimer's. I am in my early 40's. I spoke to a doctor friend who mentioned he had been on Lyrica and came off it because it made him 'stupid'. I have made a decision stop taking Lyrica. When I spoke to another doctor about what I have been experiencing he said, " yes it terrible stuff! All these symptoms are common known side effects." If this dosage had such an impact on my life and brain function then I dread to think what damage a higher dosage may have caused.

Lyrica needs to be taken off the market. Where are the attorneys? Do people have to die first?! I've been on it since May. They took away the pain meds that worked to give me memory loss, hair loss and now I have to wean myself off the lyrica and hope the brain issues will not be permanent !! Why is this drug still being prescribed?!!!

Memory impairment is common with Lyrica. More disturbing is the 'brain confusion' caused by Lyrica and the fact that it prevents the formation of new networks in the brain longterm which is why I have discontinued use of Lyrica. Look on the web for the legal suits against Pfizer's Lyrica. DO MAKE SURE THAT YOU GO OFF LYRICA 'SLOWLY... 10% A WEEK TO AVOID PROBLEMS, SOME OF WHICH ARE PERMANENT.

Doctors and the company selling lyrica need to be held accountable in the courts for the damage it has caused to people's lives.

I suffered a wet macular event when knocked by a car in an accident but I was taking Lyrica. I have permanent damage to my right eye and have injections into the eyeball for 2 years or more and this has stopped the retinal bleed. My left eye suddenly lost acuity and I had to go from 2.5 to 3.5 lens and the sight is often blurry.

I've tapered my Lyrica from 225 mg daily to 150 mg and I'm doing much better with both my memory and speech skills that had at one time left me stumbling over the simplest words. I couldn't spit out a complete sentence without sounding like an *****... I tried going cold turkey on Lyrica and had horrible withdrawal and since studying, I'm tapering off... The neuropathy pain is about the same with 150 or 225. I can't notice a difference in that area.

I have been taking 225mg 2 times a day about 5 to 6 yrs now and I noticed I started being forgetful and as time went on I noticed I can't spell simple words and today with a friend I couldn't think of a word I used yesterday. Little small simple words I can't think of while holding a conversation. It's been so frustrating that I googled tonight whether lyrica causes memory loss and to my surprise I found all you guys.I choose my mind over the meds.

I'm glad I'm not the only one whose favorite new word is "thingy". I've been taking Lyrica for several months, starting at 75 mg twice a day to 150 twice s day to combat cluster headaches and fibromyalgia. I too thought I must be getting Alzheimer's! My vocabulary is down to simple words, I couldn't remember one of my best friend's names as I was standing by her, and I too stop in the middle of a sentence and have no idea what I was saying. I talked to my doctor about it this week, and as I just started back on my CPAP, I'll see if it helps and if not lower the dosage. The weight gain has been embarrassing and takes away any help with my depression.

If you are already having side effects I would talk to your Dr about putting you on something else before it does real damage. I have been on Lyrica about 2 years and I just put together that my memory loss was from the Lyrica, it is getting worse. I am going to see if I can get my meds changed.

my memory loss started last year, I will be 41 in August, it seems to be getting worse. Its so embarrassing when I am talking and in mid sentence totally forget what I was talking about or cant think of the word I was looking for.

I have memory and speech problems, too, since being on Lyrica. The problem really surfaced when I went from 100 mg a day to 225 mg a day. I'm a musician and generally well spoken but I, like you, am now quite often, having words stuck in my throat. I feel like a babbling *****. I take Lyrica for diabetic neuropathy and the increase of dosage seems to help, though I still sometimes have to take .5 mg of Xanex to fall asleep because the neuropathy pain is so harsh.
