Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 36)

Updated

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

Imagine how it is for me at 23!!! It sucks. Something needs to change and all these addicts ruining it need to get a life and stop blowing it for all of us who really need medication to live.

i completely agree. Many of those doctors are just as bad in the whole problem. It is their responsibility to not do harm. But sometimes people are great at lying about their pain and a doctor can feel as though he's doing harm by putting the patient through "pain" that they complain about when there really isn't pain.

Hi Mac You have some very good points about all of this. I knew a guy that went to a doctor with some one elses x-rays of a shoulder and the dr. never checked his shouler or any thing to check if he really was in need of pain meds. Never the less this guy walked out with a prescription of pain meds just to make himself feel high. This is why we that need pain meds are having such a hard time getting them even with all the proof we should need to get the help us. I've been lucky that a few Dr.s have said I was a legitiment pain patient and do need meds to help live as comfortable as possible. Also just because we may not look like we are in pain and do fuction well only because of the meds , they think we should be screaming bloody murder to get this across to them that we are in pain and need help to control it. This all is sure a sore spot to me. They just don't get it not all pain is visable. Keep the faith and good luck to all in pain God bless you all.

I would think MRIs and XRAYs would be visible enough but I guess not. The DEA is so far up every doctor's rear end that when they spit it comes out the doctor's mouth but it is still not excuse to put those in LEGITIMATE pain in a terrible position. We aren't doing anything wrong, we just want to live a semi-normal life.... Hopefully things will change after not too much longer. I pray to God that they do. f100, do you know doctors outside of CPR?

People need to stop using the word addiction and start using the word dependence. There is a differance between them. This seems to be a problem for us that are in pain all the time. Just like the term cronic pain and intractable pain seems some Dr.s view this in differant ways. You know not all the pain Dr.s don't really know that much about pain and the treatment for it. They see the money to be made and jump on the wagon to get thier share of the money to be made from us pain patients. Sad but true. Also not all dr.s got straight A's in school so it's hard to know what grades they got and how they did in scool? I have found a good one that does care and wants to do all he can to help me control my pain. God bless Dr. Adam Hy

F 100 I completely agree. Taking pain medications for chronic and intractable pain AUTOMATICALLY ensues with physical dependence. It's just the nature of the best. But it doesn't mean someone is addicted mentally and they abuse their medications. Anyone who has to take pain medications on a regular basis is going to have physical dependency. But it doesn't mean they're addicted and abuse. I agree with you and that's why I can't stand addicts because thru ruin it for all the legitimate pain patients. And no I didn't Rainbow I just haven't gotten around to it. The start of this semester has been crazy!!!

MAC, almost everyone I know who's applied for SSDI is denied the first time! This doesn't make sense to me because everyone of these folks were approved the second time and they end up back paying them to the first time they applied! When I say most folks I know, I'm talking about attorneys that help u get SSDI. But when my husband applied and we had read and heard from the attorneys to expect to b denied, we were shocked that they approved him the first time! The key seems to be to have all the correct documentation from your doctor and testing to support what your doctor has to say! If u call the folks from SSDI and ask them exactly what they need when applying for SSDI seems to b the "trick" to get it done the first time through! You will need a letter from your doctor, preferably your primary that documents your issues, a letter from your pain management doctor is helpful but not as important as the one from your primary, results from your MRI's or other testing that supports your issues and if you have it a letter from your physical therapist! The letters other than the one from your primary or pain management person if that's all u use is probably the most important thing! What u want is basically a synopsis of what u have gone through, testing that's was done, treatments, including surgeries, injections and such and most importantly, perminent restrictions! The restrictions r really important! They will also ask u financial information! This is how they determine how much u get! Remember that SSDI is a "supplement", so b very careful how u fill out your financials! If u were making x, they will give u about 75% of what your wages were! If u were mostly a student, I'm not sure how they calculate what u get! I cannot express to u the importance of the letter you present! When my husband applied, I spoke to an SSDI attorney and got a list of what they thought was important to b in the letter! We did not use an attorney when he applied but we did utilize their suggestions and such! In reading info on how to apply for SSDI, we felt that applying correctly seemed to b the biggest indicator of whether u were approved or not! In speaking to folks in forums like this, info from the attorney and info from SSDI as well as working with our Dr, we were able to come up with a plan to get the best outcome! Consistently, everyone said that the doctor's letter was by far the most important! Including how your injury happened, testing, procedures, long term outcomes and perminent restrictions all are important as well as your compliance, second opinions, anything that supports your claim all seem to be very important! From what I've been told and went through, it appears the less they need to do as far as leg work, the better the chance of it going through the first time! The folks that didn't get approved the first time it seemed to be that their doctors letter was brief, didn't include what u have gone through and more info was needed!

So take your time! List out for your doctor what u need included in your letter and don't submit your claim until your letter accurately reflects everything u have gone through! Remember, most of the folks applying probably don't really have the issues or qualify for SSDI! We were lucky and our family doctor had done many letters for disability! Although I've said use your primary care doctor, I frankly would use any of your doctors that have the most experience with writing these letters! I hope this helps! I also wanted to know if anyone else has had issues getting in touch with CPR? I've been calling and keep getting a message basically saying there was no one available to take a message or is no longer in service! I'm a little concerned and don't want to go look for someone else but I'm concerned that with everything that's going on, if there have been issues! Does anyone also have this concern or am I being paranoid! I saw a blurb on the TV the other day that H sales have been skyrocketing and that the price of street H has dropped, indicating that folks that used to b treated for pain issues are now resorting to finding meds on the street because of not being able to get a doctor and the price of medications skyrocketing! My meds in the last three months have increased three times more than they were! What I used to pay about two hundred, I'm now paying close to seven hundred! Between having to pay for the visit and my meds, I'm paying out of pocket close to a grand! That's huge when u can't work and insurance isn't covering anything anymore! This info off the TV and what I'm experiencing makes me wonder what other folks r doing! My husband got his new info for his insurance through SSDI and they r limiting the amounts of controlled substances they will pay for! They cut his "allowances" by over a half! So now on top of me having to pay these high prices, his meds are now going up also! I'm not sure how we r going to afford the treatment we need! I have written everyone and the consistent answer I keep getting is that until the "kinks" get worked out of this new medical plan that we are just going to have to eat it! It seems to me this is making it worse and there isn't any answers in sight! It scares me when the news is reporting street drugs going up like they are and that probably a good 75%, r legitimate folks that need treatment! I was hospitalized for three weeks for pneumonia, just got out Sunday, the nurses told me that the amount of patients coming in for medicines have also skyrocketed! I had to wait in the ER for three days to even get a bed! All of this is worrisome to me! Hospitals being over run with folks for pain management, the cost of meds going off the chart, street drugs increasing the way they are and the costs of meds themselves, the DEA shutting doctors down, we r heading for a big meltdown and I'm not sure what we can even do at this point but things seem to b crashing and quickly! It's difficult for not just is but the docs as well! Does anyone have any ideas? I have no desire to go through withdrawal because of burecratic bs! Ideas guys?

i have been going to my pcp for pain medication for orthoarthritis in both knees for 4 months. i have to get them from pcp per my surgeon.i get my left knee replaced in april, due to surgeons schedule. after that one is better, then i get a revision done on my right knee. (a full replacement, since the first surgeon only did a half knee replacement 6 yrs ago), and it's blown out too. i am on 500mg/325mg norco 3 times daily. i have been having worse pain, because my left knee dislocates, so i told my dr about that and asked him if he could up my meds some. he said i was using drug seeking actions and referred me to a pain clinic. omg! he will not even fill what he was giving me now. (i have had the same dr for at least 15 yrs.) i went to the pain clinic because i didnt know what one was. the dr wanted to put me in two knee braces, have me get pain blocking shots in both knees, rub analgesic creams on them, and use a tens machine for pain.also i was not to use canes to walk. then give me a UA every time i go there to see if i'm taking more drugs than i should. am totally disallusioned by the medical profession. i have been getting cortisone injections in my left knee for 2 yrs. it's not like dr didn't know my knee would blow out. am sick from all the rx ibuprofen i've taken for 2 yrs too.i am NOT going to that pain clinic! i understand what some of the procedures could help, but not all. i have no choice...so have been weaning myself from my pain meds. i do not know what to do....any suggestions???
