Citalopram Hbr 20 Mg Tab

Could citalopram Hbr 20 mg tab cause itching of the skin on arms, head and face?

Warning on bottle mentions "avoid prolonged sunlight".

Hi Vickie,

If it says to avoid prolonged sunlight, the medication probably causes some sort of Photosensitivity.

Photosensitivity is a skin reaction (i.e. rash) that occurs after exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or an artificial light source. This could explain the very symptoms you're describing.

I do also want to note that itching, rashes, swelling, hives or blisters, are all listed as severe side effects of Citalopram; in which case it would probably be best to let your doctor know about this as soon as possible.

When I get in the sun, the areas that are not protected itch. It takes close inspection to see TINY RAISED bumps. My skin at the age of 56 is thin and yet they are more easily felt than seen. This happens every time I get ANY sun exposure. I only take one medicine (no supplements). The lowest dose of Citalopram available (sometimes half that).
