why would cheratussin show up on a drug test.....ummmm simple really....CODEINE...a cousin of the more notorious MORPHINE.....a poppy derivitive....nuff said...be safe...PS doctors are OUT OF LINE FOR NOT MAKING SUCH INFO PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE....

I have alot of mucus in my head and lungs. I also have COPD. I would like to know if Cheratussin AC Syryp well help with dissolving the mucus, so I can get some sleep. I keep coughing and getting short of breath.

I was recently given Cheratussin AC for cough. On the side of the bottle, It says that the syrup is available without a prescription and the medicine was manufactured in the state I live in. I thought it was a sample or something but then I looked it up and it has codeine in it. Surely this stuff isn't available over the counter, is it??

I have had been subscribed Cheratussin AC Syrup back in 02/21/08. From time to time i ocassionally get a chest cold and still have the bottle in my posesion and would use this couph syrup so i can sleep better at night. I am in search for work and found a job with better opportunities, during several interviews, finally i was hired and was asked to take a drug test. With no hessitation i quickly went to take the exam. Before the test I was having a chest cold and decided to take the couph syrup prescribed by my doctor back in February of this year, be in mind that i did not realize that the prescribed medication named Cheratussin AC syrup contains codeine, later the same week i get a call from the lab stating that I showed up possitive on my drug test and they asked if i have taken any medication? I quickly stated that yes the night before I took a couph syrup prescribed to me back in February 2008 and had given them the doctors name and prescription number and the pharmacy where i got my medication. I though no big deal. My question is.. Why would this medication show up positive on a drug test and what would be the procedures of a company who is hiring a new employee. Someone please help?

does anyone know if this medication affects blood sugars in any way? my husband is diabetic and has recently started taking cheratussin and his blood sugars have gone crazy.

I have severe allergies,my head is completely congested-my Doc gave me CHERATUSSIN AC Syrup. Does this med work just for the cough,or does it relieve the congestion??

Cyndi, yes. I was prescribed this for sever cough/cold. Was told to take 1-2 teaspoons every 4 hours but I have had to take 4 teaspoons every 4 hours to start to get relief. I'm going to call the doctor for a stronger dose or something else. It works, just in higher doses for me.

I was prescribed this for allergies and persistent dry cough. Dosage = 1 teaspoon (5ml), bur it does not work at this dosage, so I take 2. Any one else have this experience?

I am currently taking Chertusiin AC syrup for extreme coughing due to a bad case of bronchitis. I have not had a good nights sleep for the past 3 nights since the coughing worsens at night. There are no other cough medications that seems to work. This is helping.
