Butrans Vs Fentan

I have been on fentanyl 75 for many years. It's not working anymore. I talked to my pain doc and we have decided to wean down the fentanyl to 25 and then start the butrans patch for pain. Has anyone done a switch from fentanyl to butrans and which do you feel works the best. Do u use anything for breakthrough pain. Does the patch last 7 days. Did you go through a lot of withdrawals. I know this is a lot to answer but I am real scared of changing although the fentanyl doesn't seem to be working as good as it used to, is some relief better than none or should the butrans help?

Sorry to hear about your challenges with fentanyl. It seems like your doctor should be able to help you make some of those decisions based on their evaluation or assessment of your condition/medical records/and other underlying factors. But depending on the level of pain, some relief could be better a option than none at all.. a determination that only you could really make for yourself.

I haven't gone through this personally, but I thought you might find the following article to be helpful in comparing the two patches efficacy from a clinical study: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23320402 - the last paragraphs mentions something about switching between the two patches, and how it prevented adverse effects from occurring.

Does anyone else have feedback to share from their personal experience?

They last four weeks I tried Butrans not as strong as Fentanyl I almost want to get back on Fentanyl 50mcg so I told my Neuro and she intead increased dosage from 10 to 15 it seemed with the Fentanyl I was okay but starting to get Nauseous so now this patch seems to work 5 days then I hurt for 2 days hopeful these 15 mcg work better good luck to you I am on soma.flexeril.lyrica blood pressure dang!

Thanks for the answere to my questions gals. I just plum gave up. I guess I wanted to get off of it too fast n went into huge withdrawl n then I started to sorta self medicate the pain wAs way too much. I had 25's and 12.5 and put on enough for a 75 patch. I then ran out very early went into emergency room and they gave me enough 75 until my next appointment. First time in er for prob 12 years or so because the patch alwAys did the trick. I actually thought I would end up in detox but I guess they don't take people with chronic pain until u talk to ur pm dr. I was shocked. So went to pm dr told her I give up and went back on 75 every 36 hours. I guess I'm a lifer. I have to realize winter is my bad time and hopefully deal with it. Not many choices out there. But I keep telling her that the pills for breakthrough pain isn't helping either but they won't change them. But I keep taking them just per chance there helping some. Again thanks for posting.
