Bactrim Side Effects (Page 3)

I am curious if anyone else has had any of these side effects from taking bactrim. My mouth is so swollen with blisters all inside my mouth.....now it has started to affect my private area as well with same symptoms. I cant eat and it burns all day long. I only took 4 pills when this started. Please help if you can.

Wow. Sounds exactly like what happened to me except I never went back to a dr when I was on bactrim. I had gotten the worst blisters and rash on my vagina that I immediately went and had my blood drawn for herpes. After it came back negative I attributed it to the bactrim. The crazy thing was that I started having blisters on and off for 3 months so I went and got tested for herpes AGAIN ...since it can take a while for your body to build antibodies. Test came back negative. I'll never ever even think about touching bactrim again.

Beware that these mucus secreting gland lesions could be a severe systemic reaction called Stevens Johnson Syndrome. I highly recommend asking your physician for blood work (CBC, liver function, etc.). I am not a physician - but did develop a severe reaction called D.R.E.S.S to Bactrim. They monitored me for these types of eruptions - a Dermatologist checked my mouth several days later to see if I was I was developing Stevens Johnson Syndrome(SJS). You do not have to have DRESS prior to SJS.

Not all physicians are educated about SJS or DRESS - as these are supposedly rare reactions.

I hope this information helps someone to become better educated and aware of this potentially serious Bactrim (and all sulfa drugs) related issue.

Ok so i was prescribed bactrim for a uti and I felt I had an allergic reaction to it I appeared to come up with little painful sores on my genital area. I freaked. I went to the gyno today and he thinks I never had a uti I just had symptoms of herpes and a herpes out break. I really do not think I have herpes. Wr did a blood test Today so I'll have results soon although h said if I was recently infected it would come back negative! I'm worried now bc I thought this was from bactrim and now I'm worried about herpes! I'm praying for this to be just a reaction!

Helppppp !!! I'm terrified . Is this herpes or should I be calm and not worry bc so many of us have had this reaction & got these genital sores from bactrim?

You should go see your dr. I've been tested twice for herpes because the symptoms go away and then come back but both tests were negative. I haven't had any more lab work done for sjs or dress because I don't have health insurance but I'm going to try and get some soon and go.

Wow it's a relief that yu tested twice and are still negative I'm still waiting on my first results. What did yu do to make then heal? And do they look like herpes!? That's what worries me most everytime I look at it I can see that it really does look like herpes. I'm just confused and really stressing about it. Praying for the best & no herpes!

Wow Kim your story gives me hope. Im glad youre ok With all that happened to you. I immediately stopped the bactrim when I noticed the sores and maybe that's why it stopped there. Sorry you had to go through that but thank god you're ok :)) i really do Not Think i have herpes i guess Its Just scary when you have a doctor tell you he's 99% sure it's herpes and doubts it was a bactrim reaction. :/

Take a lot of liquid Benedrill and drink water.Doctor can prescribe cream with steroids to help heal fast.

Yes they look EXACTLY like herpes. I was freaking out because they go away then come back every month just like herpes. I'm a nurse so I got some bactriban ointment and silverstat gel from my job and just put it on when it happens. I hope you get better.

I thought it was going away and now I see a bunch of tiny blisters on the vag lip... :/ Seems it's getting worse instead. It's red and kind of itchy.i also have a painful gland in my groin is that normal? But I'm going to try that Benadryl asap. And hopefully visit a different doctor . I already went to a gyno . Idk what doctor I should go to now. And waiting for results sucks

Omg I'm so sorry to hear that. Was this your first outbreak? I'm a nurse and it normally takes at least 90 days after exposure to come back positive. And hsv1 normally affects the mouth. What kind of test did they do on you

I got hsv1 down there too. So it's possible. Rare but possible. Just FYI. However I got the reaction to bactrim and thought it was an outbreak but it became a lot different story after a day from it . Luckily I stop bactrim and in a few days I was fine. Compare to an outbreak it takes at least a week

Well they did a culture on me and they said it was positive for HSV1 . Now it's all healed up down there At first I was freaking out but then I calmed down a bit and thought maybe it could have been wrong? And it was relieving to read that genital hsv1 doesn't come often at all. but now I'm having all the symptoms of an oral outbreak. I don't have anything there yet and praying it doesn't come but I'm so afraid . I have the tingling feeling and itching around my mouth and nose. I'm trying to read everything I can to prevent it from actually coming. I just wish there could be a cure for this to end .

It's an allergic reaction which can develop at any time. I had taken Bactrim several times in the past myself and last time I had a horrible reaction, and the other night a doctor prescribed it to me and I had such a bad reaction it landed me in the hospital. Don't take it ever again because those blisters could wind up in your throat and make it difficult for you to breathe or even worse anaphylaxis, which is life threatening.

I have taken Bactrim D's several times in my life with no issues!! Now at 40, after taking it for 4 days, my lips(on face) are covered in cold sores and external vaginal area burn, itches covered with painful rash!!! I got put on this for a staph inf from itching!! To now have to deal with way worse!!!

Was not getting better with Bactrim DS, symptoms were getting worse, vaginal irritation. About an hour after taking Bactrim DS on day 4 - was taking 1 pill twice a day. I suddenly developed intense vaginal burning all in my pelvic area. Went to the Dr and she prescribed diflucan, told me to finish one more day of bactrim and to take the diflucan. Test came up with no yeast infection. Was it the Bactrim that caused the burning and irritation? The burning went away after stopping the meds or maybe the diflucan helped? Still have some irritation, stopped medicine Tues. Doctor thought i had a UTI but turns out i had a ruptured cyst.
