Azmacort Substitute (Page 12)

Updated

Azmacort has been taken off the market because of environmental concerns (they say). There really is NO substitute. All other steroids do not work. My wife could die because of it. No one seems to care. Do you?

i used to use azmacort. it was the best ,nothing else works as well. if they are worried about the ozone make everyone go to electric cars. illogical idiots, part of the new generation. another step in getting rid of us baby boomers.

I'm writing to the ABBOTT Labs. I'm telling them all about my concerns and how the drug and stopping it has effected me and hoping it will make a difference. I called Abbott and the lady there told me to write everything that concerns me in a letter and she will make sure it reaches the right people.I wish everyone would write to Abbott and let them know we need this medication back.

I was on Azmacort for about 15 years (maybe more). My asthma was basically non-existent during that time. I was able to do anything (ran a marathon!). I originally switched to Symbicort, which made me VERY sick. Now I'm on Pulmicort, which is OK, but I get sick much more often, use my albuterol often (never used when on Azmacort). When I'm sick I feel sluggish, like an elephant is sitting on my chest.
Yesterday my allergist recommended Qvar, but from what I've read, that has big side effects too.
Does anyone know about the new drug that is supposedly being released next month, March, 2011? Is it a replacement for azmacort?
I'm interested in anything that works like azmacort.

I tried QVAR 80 , it had big side effects for me. But so did all the rest. Write a letter to ABBOTT and tell them you want AZMACORT back. The lady at Abbott told me if they received enough interest in AZMACORT they might bring it back. Call them at 1 -800- 633-9110 if we bug them enough maybe it will help. I ask my doctor to write a note saying AZMACORT is the only drug I could take and I'm sending it to ABBOTT and to my Congressman and Senator too.I want them to know just how the stupid the little laws they pass effects ME.

I did call Abbot pharmaceuticals customer service. The woman I spoke with told me it has been taken off the market internationally (I asked because I live near Canada). I told her about my health concerns and she asked me several questions which she said would be turned in to the R&D department.
Perhaps if enough people call or write, something could change.

Thanks for calling .I was told if enough called they might start making it again. I've called them several times. I called them about 3 years ago when I found out they were going to change from CFC to HFA to find out if they were doing anything about it and she said she didn't know anything about it.I told her then it was the only drug I could use. Didn't do any good. But I have to keep trying. What could it hurt?

The ban was applied in the George Bush administration. Don't blame Gore. He had nothing to do with it.

I was on Azmacort for over 15 years. Now I have tried everything. I am using my Albuterol constantly. Almost never when on Azmacort. The side effects to all these replacements are terrible. I too have called Abbott and get the same answer.."if enough people call..." Has anyone contacted Good Morning America?

I called Abbott at 1 -800- 633-9110 (say Azmacort and Help me out). A person came on the line and recorded my concerns and complaints about there being no viable alternatives to Azmacort. Everyone should call. She seemed sincere in taking my information and promising to report it.

The new drug is Darliresp trade name is roflumilast. It is mostly for COPD but it sounded like it would help asthma sufferers also. It came out this month.

I forgot to mention that the Roflumilast is a pill I think. Not an inhaler.

Well I'm not doing very well .I can't breathe I'm on 40 mg steroid and it isn't helping. I just don't know what else to do.. I have written about 8 letter to different people.2- Congressman,President ( what a joke) senator, Governor, FDA, EPA, ABBOTT, American Lung, Jewish hospital, Asthma and Allergy Assoc. I feel so foolish when I end up crying because someone took my medicine away. But I feel so helpless. I hate being out of control. That is a big issue for me. I hope everyone is doing ok.
Blessings,

Went to doctor today. They put me on a medication that caused me to have a very bad asthma attack the last time I used it, I told them this and they gave it to me anyway. I did ok on it this time but I wonder if it was the med or just an asthma attack, even though I wasn't having an asthma attack until I used it. You are suppose to take it with out a steroid inhaler and I don't have that. The name of the medication is Bravana or preformist. And she ordered a steroid that I can use in a nebulizer which is a real good thing . But, the med she ordered is one I had the worst time with it gave me pneumonia,a sore throat, and other things. Maybe in the nebulizer I will be able to use it I hope. It was pulmicort.
So I guess you know what I will do next. First thing Monday morning I will be calling the woman at ABBOTT about making the ASMACORT in an nebulizer treatment. Yes!!!!! I so wish they would, I know that they probably could.

Where is everyone?

Margie:

We are here.

At this point, I do not have any more to add. The nebulizer thingy is a good way to get a load of stuff in your lungs. One time I suggested maybe you could use the salve, triamcinolone acetonide - which is what Azmacort is, in a breathable something or other. That might be a poor man's way of doing it but, hey! if you are suffering - - -

I believe I was told that you could not get enough that way. So, I suggested shoving some of it up in the nose. I suppose it sounded funny.

It isn't funny if you don't know if the next breath is your last.

It was nice to hear from someone again. I think we should contact the the talk show host like Montel Williams, Good Morning America, Sarah Palin, Jerry Lewis someone who knows a little about health care issues.

Margie:

I believe I tried Bill O'Reilly and the Sokolove lawyers at one time. Mr. O does not respond, although we thought it might be a fight he could help win. The lawyers did not want to get into a fight like this.

I too have taken azmacort for 22 years and i didn't even feel like i had asthma anymore so healthy, never needed proventil or rescue inhalers i was so sad when i heard they took it off the market, i have tried flovent didnt' work and something else, of course takes a while before you know it doesn't work. Anyway with your faith in Christ, one go to healing service, of course Jesus may not decide to heal you and then obviously move forth. My 3rd medicine I am on is Advair, of course needed a dose of prednisone that the wheened me off to clear me up since i was so bad and even nebulizer treatments didn't help. anyway, seems to be working can go to advair coupons on search and get a 30 day supply free to try. Did you ever search online to see if you can by Azmacort in Canada or online pharmacies, I never have, just a suggestion. I had called over 20 pharmicies in my state of OH northeast too since I figured there is obviously some left at pharmacies non expired of course temporary fix, but hey I did find a few that offered to ship them in, long haul I thought not worth since I know that I will need to change, but worth a try to buy some time. Will be praying for ya.

I went to the doctor and they put me on Bravana for 3 weeks to see if I could use it and then if I could I was to add budesonide. Well, the Bravana isn't to be used without an inhaled steroid being used . So I didn't start it the FDA has warnings all over the place saying not to take without steroids . So I called her and told her .She said she ask the doctor and he said he didn't think it would hurt anything.Well it wouldn't hurt him at all. I refused to use it like that and said they had the cart before the horse, since I won't be using it at all if I can't use the steroid, so I will try the steroid and see . It is the same medicine as Pulmicort which the doctor knows I had a bad reaction to it. But they want me to try it anyway. After all I'll only get sick or might die no problem. Both of these medications are nebulizer medications that is the only reason I'm giving it a try. Because I know I can't take the other ones.

I did get a reply back from the Obama office and all it said was trying to sell his stupid health care plan. It made me so mad I wrote them back and let them have it and told them that had NOTHING to do with why I wrote them. It does make me feel a little better. # :~)

We did contact all the Canada online pharmacies, and they are unable to get Azmacort as well. Good luck with the Advair. I had a bad reaction to it, and it left me with laryngitis for several weeks after I stopped it. I'm on Dulera now. Still having problems with it, but have to be on something.
