I too have been searching. Best thing for a sore throat. Maybe we should call the Bayer Co. and ask them to start making it. From the response here it should be worth it. With the resurgence of asprin as a solution to heart and other issues, the demand should be great.
I still have 3 pieces left but I don't want to use them (i know, silly). I think I am going to write to Bayer and tell them about this blog.

Hello all, I too would like some Aspergum! it worked way better than other cough drops or anything else on the market! That being said, in pharmacy school we have learned that children should NOT take aspirin due to a reaction called Reye's syndrome that can occur in children who take aspirin and have a certain virus. The sysdrome is extremely dangerous. This is actually the same reason they no longer market low dose aspirin as baby aspirin. Anyway....since the aspergum is gum and therefore favored by children they probably faced issues there. Another problem currently is the cold formula products that are now available OTC that contain multiple medications. Maybe they thought Aspergum with other cold medicines would lead to overdose? Just my thoughts on the issue.....either way its a shame because I really could use some right now....

So sorry to find out that the Company Insight Pharmaceutical allowed the patent on Aspergum to expire on 1/3/2009. If there is any stock left on the shelves, it has probably already reached the expiration date. Wish I had the money and know-how to start manufacturing it under my own company!

Found Aspergum by sheer accident a few years ago. It is THE BEST product for sore throat. IF THE MANUFACTURER SPENT SOME MONEY ON ADVERTISING and got the word out there MAYBE sales would sky-rocket!! You can keep all those bagged candy products for sore throat, it does NOTHING to alleviate the pain. In addition, a GREAT cough syrup called, REM from when I was a child in the 1970's also disappeared from sight. Too bad!!!!!

The Aspergum dose is was 227mg of aspirin. Bayer children's chewable orange flavored aspirin is 81mg per pill. Pick a gum out preferably orange or citrus and chew it enough to make it pliable. Then insert 3 of the orange aspirin into it covering the tablets completely. Let this sit in your mouth for a little while then chew. Its very close to the same thing as Aspergum. Even gives the gum the same texture and a slight bitter taste that I remember about he Aspergum. A little stronger but it definitely worked for my sore throat in the same way.

I have been looking for it for days! My pharmacist saidhe cant even order it. Now I read all your posts and find out its not available....nothing nothing works for my sore throat than Aspergum. I had some that was old last year and used it now nothing is available. Please manufacturer bring it back!!!!!!!

Maybe it's not too late. With the increased interest in heart health the manufacturer needs better advertising. I could see this product bouncing back as the newest aid to heart health if they only had a brain. Some foreign company maybe in India or China will buy the formula and bring it back with a bang. I want stock in that company.

I totally disagree with them being discontinued. I used both drixoral & asprgum & yes, aspergum was AWESOME 4 sore throats. They both worked great! Sure wish they'd bring them both back & now.

looks like it was the promptings of some airhead parent who's kid ate the stuff thinking it was chewing gum, and "OD'd" on it. maybe that will end that particular gene pool.

After I found out I couldn't get Aspergum anymore, I
asked my pharmacist if I could just make my own. He
said I could. He suggested I use 1/2 aspirin (the old
type without coating) grind it between two spoons and
then work a piece of gum into it. You would have to
chew the gum first. It may not be the most convenient
thing, but it is better than nothing and there is no
reason why it wouldn't work. I am certainly going to
make my own.
