Trouble From Accutane?
Saturday, 11/21/2009 12:31:32 PM in Accutane
My son (Age 17) took Accutane for about 17 weeks when he started going downhill mentally. Dermatologist would not continue treatment until we brought in a note from a psychiatrist saying he was okay. I chose not to continue with treatment. Son seemed to be okay. Anyway, he now has odd behavior going around the house saying schnit, schnit, schnit and no, no, no. He also sticks his chin out, makes and odd movement with his lips, and you can see the cords in his neck. He sometimes stops when he walks. This seemed to start after stopping the Accutane which was around 6 weeks ago. He has lost weight, isn't interested in eating anymore, and feels that he has something wrong with his stomach. He looked at me one time and it was so sad because he looked haunted. Has anyone had any experience like this? I was told by the nurse about the side effects that if I read the side effects of Tylenol I would never take another Tylenol again. (This was due to my concern when I read the pamphlet given to me when I was considering Accutane.) Oh, it appears the acne is coming back too.

Accutane Long Term Side Effects
Wednesday, 11/18/2009 10:44:46 PM in Accutane
I have a son that took accutane 60 mg a day for six months in a row three years ago. Now after many trips to doctors over strange medical problems, it seems accuatne is the culprit medication that has caused servere joint and muscle pain, severe dry lips, redness in face, eye infections of own immune system attacking itself, systems of osteoarthritis in both shoulders, both wrist and right hand, blood in stool, possible hair loss, abnormal liver function test results in AST and ALT. My son went from being a high school football and track athlete while taking this medication three years ago to someone that is in constant pain just washing a car. After I have researched this drug extensively, I can't believe that the FDA allows this drug originally made for cancer patients to be marketed for teenagers with acne. All one has to do is look online what vitamin A overdose does to someone and then you have the results of what this medication has done to my son. This drug needs to be taken off them market ASAP and the drug companies that make it need to compensate all teenagers that they have possible ruined their future. Shame on them ! What is going on here ?

Accutane & Side Affects
Monday, 11/2/2009 12:59:01 PM in Accutane
Okay, I've been taking 30mg of Accutane for almost a year now. I'm very pleased with the results. I used to have very oily hair and skin that led to severe acne on my face. No matter what I did, nothing helped until I started using Accutane. I am fully aware that this is a serious drug, and is the last resort for acne problems. The side affects are clearly listed on various websites and on the Accutane prescription itself. I knew the potential health risks and what I was getting myself into. Those who choose to take Accutane are usually warned by doctors and I also would think one would do serious research before taking this drug. It is very unfortunate that people are suing the drug companies that produce Accutane. I don't think it's fair for the rest of us who are getting successful results. I'm afraid that if too many people sue, then Accutane will no longer be available for retail in the US. Accutane is not the only drug with serious side affects. You do not have to take this drug. It is solely up to you to take or continue to take this medication. If you don't like the side affects.... simply stop taking it. As a very satisfied Accuntane user, I needed to express my frustration to the sue happy folks who are trying to ruin it for the rest of the people suffering from severe acne and are getting positive results from this miracle drug. When a patient is warned about the serious side affects, and they still choose to take the medication anyway, they are willingly taking it at their own risk. Therefore, you should be liable for what ever happens to yourself, not the drug companies. I know many people may argue against my statement on here, but it sure felt good to stand up for the drug I believe has changed my life for the better.

Tacrolimus Assay
Sunday, 9/13/2009 10:50:53 PM in Tacrolimus
Does anyone know how to remove the excipients from tacrolimus prior to running it on HPLC? I have found that susequent runs do not have a good baseline due to excipients sticking to the column.

Serious Side Effects
Wednesday, 9/9/2009 9:21:01 PM in Accutane
My son started taking accutane 30 days ago. He has already lost his appetite completely and get sick to his stomach when he eats. His mood is one of a grey cloud. His knees ache and he has cracks in his lips. He had some open wounds from a crash in a bicycle race 4 weeks ago and they still have not heeled. I have had an older girl on the medication with no problems but will be stopping the use of this drug immediately.

Isotretinoin??
Wednesday, 7/8/2009 8:26:59 PM in Isotretinoin
My dermatologist reccomended the medication Isotretinoin for me and strongly suggests it. But while reading over the side effects, me and my father had a lot of second thoughts and said we'd think our decision over. Our doctor said the only side effect that would mainly occur are chapped lips and some depression. If anyone can help me out with either their experiences or has known someone who has taken it, let me know. I'm still a 'kid' and need to know what i'm doing before taking action.

Accutane/pancreatitis
Wednesday, 4/1/2009 3:43:09 PM in Accutane
My son was hospitalized a few years ago for acute pancreatitis. At the time, he was taking Accutane and drinking (social). He is now back on Accutane and promised he will not be drinking for 6 months. Is he in danger of getting pancreatitis again?
