Coumadin Vs Warfarin
Friday, 6/25/2010 12:35:10 PM in Warfarin
My mom was on coumadin for many years but then her insurance company told her she had to take warfarin as this is the one they would pay for. Is there really any different in these two drugs? It seems to me that she has been having more problems with the warfarin (keeping this medication at the right level) than the coumadin. I was told they were the same medications and do the same. I just wanted to know if some people have difficulties taking warfarin vs coumadin??? Thanks.

My Father Died From Coumadin
Thursday, 3/25/2010 11:41:26 AM in Coumadin
My father was on Coumadin. One day he hit his head. If it were not for Coumadin, the small bump on his head would have amounted to nothing unusual. However, the Coumadin resulted in a cerebral hemorraghe. Even though he had been takikng Coumadin exactly as prescribed and had gone for each of his INR checks, when he got to the hospital, the doctors found his INR was off the richter scale. To relieve the pressure on his brain from the hemorraghe, they needed to operate. But they couldn't because his INR level was too high. They said it would take 24 hours to reduce his INR to a level at which they could operate. By that time, he was dead.
Subsequently, the doctors wanted to put me on Coumadin for a year. I said no. They insisted and finally said you have to go on Coumadin for at least a month. They guranteed me they could control the coumadin, so I reluctantly agreed to one month. The doctors' guarantee was as good as the paper it was written on. Though I took the Coumadin exactly as prescribed, within two weeks, I ended up in the Emergency Room with a serious abdominal bleed. Now, if any doctor even mentions Coumadin to me, I tell them to Go to Hell. They have no idea what they are doing with this drug or how to control it.

Plavix Vs Clavix
Friday, 11/27/2009 5:56:35 PM in Plavix
Hi, my mother underwent an angioplasty last month and she is taking plavix and ecosprin along with other medicines. Now the doctor has suggested that we can start using clavix instead of plavix as plavix is very expensive.
But I'm sceptical about it and would like to know wether Clavix is really as good as Plavix.
Thanks,
Kris
